Bupa and HealthTap build personalized health records with AI

by John R. Fischer , Staff Reporter
International health and care company Bupa has entered into a strategic partnership with HealthTap, the first Health Operating System supported by the largest network of interactive physicians and artificial intelligence, to develop "personalized health records" for digital and in-person health care needs worldwide.

The agreement will oversee the use of HealthTap’s proprietary Health Operating System, HOPES, and its AI-powered apps, to provide quality, speed and convenience of care to Bupa customers, ensuring greater positive experiences.

“For the first time, people will have one personal health record, one source of truth,” Ron Gutman, founder and CEO of HealthTap, told HCB News. “Another really important reason we’re excited to work with Bupa is because it’s the first time in health care that people will have an end-to-end solution. Not only is there a clinical side, an educational side or a connection with doctors, but also the payment is fully integrated. Just like with Amazon or Netflix or Uber, everything is in one place including the payment side. They don’t need to go to the multiple websites or apps or call. It’s going to be all in one app.”

The platform, powered by AI technology, enables physicians and patients to track and schedule appointments in due time for various needs, such as physiotherapy or immunization. It also provides telemedicine support and enables scheduling for both in-person and virtual appointments.

With HOPES, Bupa customers can access a library of medical-related knowledge derived from a network of more than 100,000 physicians.

In addition, its clinical customer relationship management feature provides reminders for appointments as well as medication and medical device use.

The efficiency behind HOPES, according to Gutman, lies in its AI technology, which personalizes services, enabling more positive experiences.

“The platform has inherited the build with machine learning at the core of it. It learns all the time about you,” Gutman said. “The more usage you have on the platform, the better the platform gets to know you. The better it gets to know you, the better it can match you with the best care, at the right time, with the right cost.”

HOPES is now available in countries where Bupa has a presence, and is set to undergo customizations in each one due to the number of potential use cases available through it. Additional announcements regarding its deployments are expected in the near future.
