The Shandon Excelsior ES allows users the ability to perform walk-away, xylene-free tissue processing on a reliable, high quality instrument that consistently meets the most demanding laboratory tissue processing applications. The established features and benefits of the instrument have been updated with a redesigned, simplified software format that ensures ease of use. The intuitive display screen offers automated procedural and QC functions in a simplified layout, with push-button functions that ease daily operation.
A daily operations mode facilitates routine operations, allowing users to select and start a processing run or a flush cycle with a single key press. A readily accessible menu mode offers all of the instruments functional applications, and a quality control screen permits access to rotation requests. All functions can be user protected. Wax bath levels can be easily verified by simply opening cabinet doors. A unique reagent monitoring system alerts users when replacement is necessary by measuring the reagent quality of the first alcohol. A reagent preheating option enables more consistent processing and rapid biopsy runs. Three distinct fill levels in the chamber help to shorten processing times. The circular design provides improved temperature uniformity while continuous agitation circulates reagents freely around specimens. An organized basket will process 222 cassettes, and a random basket will process up to 300 cassettes. A glass lid enables constant viewing of all procedures.
Safety features include built-in downdraft ventilation to reduce operator exposure to harmful vapors, automatic underfill recovery, two remote alarms to alert users to any possible problems, and a battery back-up to ensure specimen protection. The reagent storage cabinet is vented through two additional filters for increased fume control.
