Self-Developing Film for Radiotherapy Dosimetry Debuted by ISP

ISP, of Wayne, N.J., is offering a new generation of self-developing dosimetry film with performance features that surpass the original technology introduced in 2004, according to the company.

The technology, called GAFCHROMIC EBT 2, now includes a marker dye to support automated calculations of dose response using both the red and blue color channels of a flatbed color scanner. The company said the film represents an improvement in uniformity because the response value derived from the marker dye provides a reference level for the performance of the film.

David Lewis, senior research fellow with the Advanced Materials Group of ISP, said the new film addresses the medical physicist's requirement for self-developing films that perform within a very tight margin of error.

"With the added marker dye capability, GAFCHROMIC EBT 2 film offers the medical imaging professional a higher level of confidence in today's film-less environment," Lewis said. "The marker dye will allow the FilmQA Verification Software designed in conjunction with the film to assess the response values from the blue color channel of a flatbed color scanner and ultimately support excellent uniformity through a series of automated calculations."

EBT-2 film will be available in 8 x 10 inch and 14 x 17 inch sheet formats.
