Medline’s 710,000-square-foot distribution center is now up and running in Salt Lake City, Utah, as part of the supply chain distributor’s Healthcare Resilience Initiative.

The company, whose facility is now three times the size it was previously, celebrated the expansion on September 26 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the site.

“Expanding the healthcare and life science sectors is a priority, and Medline’s new facility supports the healthcare supply chain while creating good jobs for the community,” said Lance Soffe, director of targeted industries at the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity, in a statement.

Since 2018, Medline has invested $2 billion as part of its Healthcare Resilience Initiative in domestic manufacturing, distribution, and IT to strengthen the U.S. healthcare supply chain, delivery, and customer service. To date, it has constructed eight distribution centers and expanded manufacturing capabilities during the pandemic to continue to meet growing time-to-market demands for PPE.

Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall revealed, in February 2022, her plan, “A Blueprint for Growing Salt Lake City’s Health Care Economy,” a partnership with public and private entities in the city and state’s medical innovation industry, which included Medline as a participant.

Earlier in September, Medline opened a $75 million LEED-certified facility in St. Peters, Missouri to distribute thousands of medical products and devices to hospitals and other providers across the U.S.

It also opened a $72 million warehouse back in April in Louisiana, the largest medical distribution center in the state, to process more than $200 million worth of orders annually. The previous year, it began operations at its $125 million, 1.4 million-square-foot LEED-certified facility in Grayslake, Illinois, which is the largest medical-grade distribution center in the U.S.

Together, all eight of the facilities it has opened under its initiative make up 9.7 million square feet.

“Medline has history in Salt Lake City and a larger facility will help us take care of more healthcare facilities across the continuum of care,” said Steve Miller, executive vice president of supply chain at Medline.

Medline is headquartered in Northfield, Illinois, and has more than 35,000 employees worldwide working in over 125 countries and territories.
