Aspect Imaging has received a Vizient Innovative Technology contract for its Embrace Point of Care Neonatal MR system, the first MR scanner designed to be directly placed within the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

The solution is the first in the world to be FDA-cleared and CE-marked to specifically image premature and newborn infants. It has a permanent manager and is self-shielded, making it more accessible, quicker, and easier to use, and its design for NICU units overcomes the size- and risk-prohibitive challenges of installing an adult MR scanner there.

Through its contract program, Vizient provider customer-led councils identify technologies that show potential for enhancing clinical care and patient and healthcare worker safety, and improving business operations for healthcare providers. The company’s customer base includes academic medical centers, pediatric facilities, community hospitals, integrated health delivery networks, and nonacute healthcare providers that represent more than $130 billion in annual purchasing volume.

Receiving a contract means the technology will be featured on Vizient’s Innovative Technology Forum, an annual interactive event that members and suppliers use to learn about new solutions for improving their care and business operations, opening the door for contracting and marketing opportunities.

“The Embrace MR gives the neonatal medical team access to information from the first hours of life and throughout the patient’s time in the NICU, upon which critical care decisions will be based,” said Wendy Slatery, chief commercial officer of Aspect Imaging, in a statement.

Among its features, Embrace has an integrated temperature-controlled patient bed for better control over a baby’s environment, and the Whisper Quiet sound profile to support developmental needs. These and other capabilities enable fragile patients to undergo MR scanning safely, making this modality more accessible for these cases. It also provides critical information to clinical care teams as needed.
