Mercyhealth to open first 24/7 emergency care hospital in Crystal Lake, Illinois in July

Mercyhealth Hospital and Physician Clinic will open on July 24.
Mercyhealth, in Illinois, is opening Crystal Lake's first 24/7 emergency care unit, Mercyhealth Hospital and Physician Clinic, on July 24.

The city began construction in 2021 on the $105 million facility, which will include family medicine, X-ray and lab services, orthopedics, sports medicine, gastroenterology, general surgery, cardiology, cancer care, infusion therapy, and physical therapy. Officials say the cost of constructing the hospital may be higher due to inflation and supply-chain issues, reported the Daily Herald.

It will also have a private inpatient suite with 13 beds and two intensive care units, as well as a helipad on top of the building, surgery suites, emergency care and diagnostic services, and primary care.

It is expected to shorten travel distances for round-the-clock care, with patients previously having to travel to full-service hospitals in Huntley, McHenry and Woodstock.

“We are excited to give Crystal Lake residents access to emergency services, which have been severely lacking in Crystal Lake for decades,” Mercyhealth president and CEO Javo Bea told Patch.com in 2021.

Previously, MercyHealth ran a physical therapy location and a doctor’s office in Crystal Lake, providing residents there with physician and outpatient care.

In 2021, Patch reported that the project would create 350 jobs in construction and trades while the facility was being built, along with 134 new, permanent positions.

Mercyhealth, which operates hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin, will hold a hiring event on June 28 to fill a range of positions, from nurses, to security, to food service staff members.

It will also hold an open house on July 15.
