Scott Collins' dental equipment
company has literally
risen from the flames

Collins Dental Equipment Co., Inc. is located in Nicholasville, KY. The company has a special niche of sales and service in new and used dental equipment. The company carries a wide range of products from around a hundred different manufacturers. The primary devices sold are dental chairs, lights, x-rays, curing lights, compressors, vacuums, digital pieces--the whole spectrum of dental needs. Collins obtains its equipment from OEMs, trade-ins, bankruptcies, and consolidation of practices.

Collins Dental offers service as well, both restoring and refurbishing equipment. Handpieces tend to be most frequently in need of service from the constant use. Customers are primarily throughout Kentucky and surrounding states. Company President Scott Collins is a Kentucky native, and knows nearly everybody in the area in the dental equipment business. Collins says the company has a superior reputation for strong ethics and being honest in repairs. Collins has worked hard over the years to build a family business. (When he's not taking care of the company he tours as part of a gospel music group, Thornhill, recently returned from a tour in Germany.)

Collins says that his company is distinctive due to its dental specialty combined with years of experience. Collins Dental handles both old technology and new computer-based technology. Employee training is continual, through OEMS, online and journal updates. Collins says business is going strong, recently doubling in size and now has two service vans and the on-site repair shop.

Collins has been in the business since 1993, first working for other dental equipment services as a service manager. He finally branched out and built his own company from the ground up. Currently, Collins Dental has six employees-a variety of IT, sales persons, and service people. Collins ensures it carries a strong inventory, with at least three chairs in stock. Collins Dental has a store front and a large showroom and display, also a lab and warehouse. Collins found establishing a web presence to be very important in expanding the sales base, and has successfully increased national and international sales, recently as far as Kuwait. Most encouragingly, the Collins Dental office burned down completely 2-3 years ago, but rebounded from that terrible happenstance and has actually grown more since the fire. Scott Collins says, "Who says there are no such things as happy endings?"

DOT med has been very helpful to Collins Dental's business. Being DOTmed Certified means more business. Collins Dental attracts more customers and makes the most of its web presence through DOTmed-a must in the new economy, Collins says, particularly to reach out to the larger world and gain notice for a specialty product.
