GE Healthcare has appointed Peter Arduini as its new president and CEO.

Arduini, who previously spent 15 years at GE Healthcare, is slated to take over from current head Kieran Murphy effective January 3, 2022. “I am thrilled to be rejoining GE and for the opportunity to work with GE Healthcare’s talented team,” he said in a statement.

Most recently serving as president and CEO of Integra LifeSciences since January 2012, Arduini oversaw multiple acquisitions and established a sustainable R&D pipeline. This helped the company achieve double digit EPS growth, top line growth, doubled EBITDA and quintupled market value with total shareowner return outperforming MedTech Peers and the S&P. It also opened up global leadership positions in neurosurgery and in plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Prior to this, he was president of Baxter Healthcare’s $5 billion medication delivery division, managing 20,000 employees. And before that, he served in a range of leadership roles for GE Healthcare, including in its computed tomography and molecular imaging business, healthcare services and U.S. sales division.

Arduini is a board member of Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, the Advanced Medical Technology Association and the National Italian American Foundation. He also serves on the board of trustees of Susquehanna University, where he received his bachelor’s before getting his master's from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.

Murphy, who has worked in healthcare and life sciences for more than 32 years, will stay on as president and CEO until the end of 2021 and will help in the transition. He will then serve as a strategic advisor to GE chairman and chief executive officer H. Lawrence Culp Jr. on GE’s precision health strategy before retiring from the company, which he has been a part of for the last 13 years.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the work we do in partnership with our customers across the world, improving healthcare access, enabling more precise diagnosis and treatment, and ultimately delivering better patient outcomes,” said Murphy. “Pete is stepping in to lead a passionate team at the forefront of an ecosystem striving for precision health, and I look forward to seeing GE Healthcare’s continued leadership for years to come.”
