(Eagan, MN) May 20, 2020 - On Wednesday, May 13th, 2020, the Patent Trial & Appeal Board (“PTAB”) issued an important Inter Partes Review decision in favor of Sorna Corporation; a worldwide leader in medical information sharing solutions. After several years of litigation history, a competitor again tried to invalidate our innovative, industry-leading patents. The decision by the PTAB upheld each of the challenged claims allowing Sorna to continue to take advantage of its unique patent protections in a very competitive industry.

Sorna’s Executive Vice President Cyrus Samari noted, “This is a major victory for us – further confirming our innovation. We invested the time and money to secure patent protection in a very dynamic and ever-changing industry. The Board today confirmed that our patents are novel, and that they represent the gold standard for medical data recording devices of this kind”. He added, “This decision provides further assurance for our OEMs, channel partners, and end-users that they have selected a pioneering supplier.”

Alex Farrell led the litigation team, working with Frank Farrell, in another intellectual property victory for Best & Flanagan law firm. Only about 20% of petitions to the PTAB result in all challenged patent claims surviving, as was the case here. As stated by attorney Frank Farrell “This represents a very clear statement from Patent Trial and Appeal Board, a qualified legal authority with a reputation for invalidating patents, that Sorna’s patents are valid and enforceable. Those in Sorna’s marketplace need to be aware of the significance of this decision.”
