Philips and Hologic have announced a worldwide partnership.

The deal will provide integrated services for women patients by bringing together Hologic's mammography technologies and Philips' portfolio of ultrasound, MR, CT, and X-ray systems and advanced informatics – as well as maintenance, upgrade, training and operational performance management.

“Philips is well known for their industry-leading technologies in ultrasound and other imaging modalities, like MR or CT,” Pete Valenti, Hologic's division president, Breast and Skeletal Health Solutions, told HCB News. Through the partnership, he added, “Hologic can join Philips when engaging with customers on projects that were not previously possible for the two companies alone. It's a win for everyone involved, including the customers and patients we serve."

Philips has a number of women-facing technologies, including its ultrasound-based Philips Affinity with Anatomical Intelligence for Breast, MR-based Ingenia digital MR with Compressed SENSE to reduce exam times, and PET/CT-based Vereos fully digital PET/CT.

“This partnership allows us to offer a complete set of innovative diagnostic imaging systems, software and services to our customers, including Hologic's market-leading mammography solutions for breast screening and diagnosis of women in need of care," said Rob Cascella, CEO Diagnosis & Treatment businesses for Royal Philips in a statement.

Thanks to the agreement, Philips will also be in a position to provide Hologic products in multi-modality deals, including its new 3Dimensions mammography system.

The multiyear, nonexclusive arrangement will also permit regional customization to better fit with the needs of specific customers, say the companies.

“The value proposition for multi-modality vendors like GE, Siemens, and Philips is offering a broad portfolio, bundling to save the customer on capital, service and operational expenses,” Valenti advised HCB News, explaining that “governments and large multisite systems often negotiate bundled equipment deals and sometimes prefer to work with a single supplier. Customers valuing single-source strategies for management and operational synergies can now benefit by obtaining access to leading technologies across multiple modalities.”

Hologic announced another partnership deal – with Clarius Mobile Health – at RSNA in December, 2017. That partnership will permit integration of its algorithms with Clarius Mobile Health’s wireless, handheld ultrasound scanners, as part of a co-developing partnership between the two.
