Friday afternoon HealthCare Business News received word that the Dunlee CT tube facility in Aurora, Illinois, owned by Philips, is being purchased by Chronos Imaging LLC, a company intending to continue the manufacturing of CT tubes at the location.

The source, who claims to have close knowledge of the situation, asked to remain anonymous because the announcement has not been made public yet, but will reportedly be disclosed on Monday.

As part of the deal, Chronos Imaging will continue to provide Philips with CT tubes through a long-term supply agreement. The Delaware-based company reportedly also has plans to develop new CT tubes to serve the OEM and replacement CT tube markets.

Last summer, Philips announced its intentions to shutter the Dunlee facility and move those operations to Germany.

While unconfirmed, the source told HCB News that Chronos Imaging is backed by Rob Piconi, founder of MESA in Europe, who later formed the Pantheon Healthcare Group (now branded Althea), where Piconi remains a stakeholder alongside Permira. With the acquisition of TBS Group last year, which added India and China to an already dense European footprint, Althea is quickly becoming one of the larger global players in health care multi-vendor equipment services.

The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

2/20/2018 EDIT: Philips has provided the following statement to HCB News confirming this report:

Philips has sold its manufacturing facility in Aurora, Illinois, for third party Computed Tomography (CT) replacement tubes and related assets to Chronos Imaging, a U.S.-based medical device and healthcare service solution company. As part of the transaction, Chronos Imaging will continue to produce third party CT replacement tubes for Philips which will continue to be sold through the Dunlee brand. This agreement helps further enhance Philips' commitment to our third party tube replacement business, and to increase our competitiveness in this segment.

2/21/2018 EDIT: Chronos Imaging has published a press release formally announcing the purchase of the Dunlee facility, you can read it here.
