The University of Virginia Health System recently entered a multi-year strategic agreement with Premier Inc. to improve its performance.

The deal will provide UVA with access to Premier's bundled enterprise-wide performance improvement and supply chain service offering as well as data and analytics from the PremierConnect performance improvement platform.

PremierConnect, which was launched in March 2015, integrates clinical, financial and outcomes information. That allows physicians to view care delivery utilization and variation data, compare effectiveness, prioritize areas of improvement and project performance on value-based payment models.

UVA will also have access to Premier consultants who can help them improve quality, reduce the cost of care delivery and drive and sustain efficiencies across its organization.

The 600-bed medical center cared for 27,819 inpatients last year and had 62,998 emergency visits. It's a member of America's Essential Hospitals, which consists of over 300 hospitals.

In August 2016, Premier partnered with America's Essential Hospitals to develop and implement best practices in clinical, cost ,and population health management across its members.

Dr. Andrew Ziskind, senior vice president of academic health system strategy at Premier, explained that academic health systems are committed to research, teaching, clinical care and service to their communities.

"As these institutions undergo a transformation to excel in value-based care and population health management, they need the right data, analytics and solutions," he said in a statement.

The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Premier stated that it does not expect this to materially impact its fiscal 2018 financial results.
