Applications training, image quality and patient dose

January 05, 2016
From the November 2015 issue of HealthCare Business News magazine
Consider retraining sessions for digital systems to ensure that all staff is knowledgeable about the system features, dose reduction and image quality optimization.
As part of an educational initiative, offer an infection control workshop that focuses on the importance of bagging detectors during portable operations, proper cleaning and disinfecting of wireless detectors, as well as cleaning fixed and mobile X-ray units.
Partner with existing vendors to obtain additional training resources (CEUs, video instruction, or supplementary on-site training).
Pay special attention to scenarios with multimodality technologists to ensure they use best practices despite not working in one modality on a full-time basis.

We will continue to see changes in the levels of digital technology, and future availability of even more complex algorithms related to dose and image quality, which will require a heightened element of education and training in order to use the latest-generation technology to its full potential. This will require equipment manufacturers, medical physicists and the technologists who perform the radiographs to continue to work together to better establish a broader sense of standardization within the market, to help improve patient care and safety.
