Utilizing X-ray with the smallest dose possible is never more important than when imaging the vulnerable, developing bodies of neonatal patients. In an effort to meet those needs, Agfa HealthCare will be unveiling MUSICA for Neonatal at this year's meeting of the European Congress of Radiology.

Built on the foundation of its MUSICA image processing software, the neonatal version offers a visualization balance that is customized especially for the soft bone, lung, and abdominal tissue of a newborn patient.

"With the help of pediatric radiologists, we have created MUSICA for Neonatal to address the demanding image-quality requirements that our neonatal specialists need to care for these delicate, radiation-sensitive patients," Marc de Fre, Agfa's global marketing director, told DOTmed News.

This, the third generation of MUSICA image processing software, minimizes noise and improves detail, while offering a lower dose of exposure to the patient by utilizing a patented algorithm. That means the details of the image can be detected and magnified without exposing the patient to higher levels of toxicity.

"Some image-processing techniques can improve contrast and detail or remove noise. MUSICA can do both, automatically and simultaneously," said de Fre.

The company plans to unveil MUSICA for Neonates at the European Congress of Radiology, in Vienna next month, an annual meeting of industry leaders that will be celebrating ten years of the European Society of Radiology.
