Welch Allyn announced that Janie Goddard has joined the company as executive vice president of strategic business units and marketing. Goddard is an industry veteran, most recently having served in various roles with Covidien. Prior to Covidien, Goddard worked for Johnson & Johnson, Eastman Kodak and The Clorox Company.

DMN: How would you describe your new job?
JG: A fun, exciting and challenging opportunity to drive profitable growth within a leading medical device company that has a rich history of innovation and a strong brand equity.

DMN: How did you get started in the industry?
JG: I migrated over to the healthcare industry after starting my post MBA career in consumer packed goods marketing.

DMN: How long have you been working in the industry?
JG: I've been in the healthcare industry for more than 10 years.

DMN: How does your background play a direct role in what you bring to this new position?
JG: I have several key skill sets (strategic and analytic thinking, strong leadership capabilities and a drive for results) along with experience across a broad and diverse portfolio of medical device businesses that will directly impact my ability to contribute in my new position.

DMN: What are your goals in your new position?
JG: To drive profitable growth, provide strong leadership and strategic direction, and have fun.

DMN: What excites you most about the industry these days?
JG: The opportunity to deliver against patient and customer needs while managing through the changing market and competitive landscape.
