Brigham and Women's Hospital breaks ground on $450 million research building

Brigham and Women's Hospital has begun construction a 360,000-sq-ft translational research and clinical facility on the hospital's Boston, MA, campus. Dubbed "Brigham Building for the Future," it is a $450 million, 11-story facility that will be primarily be dedicated to research intended to convert medical discoveries into viable treatments, though it will have three floors of clinics, including transfusion and underground imaging centers. Construction should be completed by 2016.

Hundreds of Brigham and Women’s 15,000 employees took part in drawing up the plan, which seeks to lay out the hospital’s goals and challenges in the context of changes sweeping the health care industry. It envisions a more coordinated, team-based approach to delivering health care, as well as state-of-the-art facilities.

The project is slated to be completed in 2016.
