The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) elected a new line-up of leaders during its 2013 Annual Meeting, held June 8-12 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, including new president-elect Peter Herscovitch.

At a press conference held on June 10th, Herscovitch outlined a goal to focus on the development of new radiopharmaceuticals. "As president-elect, I will make it a priority to continue the society's efforts to aid in this process, particularly for brain amyloid imaging radiopharmaceuticals," he said.

The new president-elect also presented the SNMMI Image of the Year — an image that encapsulates cutting-edge research in nuclear medicine. This year's image was a scan that illustrated the effectiveness of radium-223 dichloride in treating bone lesions in breast cancer patients.
