Belgian display and medical workstation maker Barco said Friday it bought JAOtech to gain a foothold in the growing point-of-care market. JAOtech, a British company, sells bedside entertainment and clinical monitors.
Barco said JAOtech was bought for less than the amount of its one year sales. JAOtech had sales of approximately 19 million euros ($25 million) in 2011, Barco said.
"Today, Barco is market leader in mammography, diagnostic and modality imaging," Piet Candeel, general manager of Barco's health care group, said in a statement. "With the acquisition of JAOtech, we strengthen our position as market leader in healthcare visualization, as the JAOtech terminals enable us to become a leading player in the patient point-of-care segment."
JAOtech, which has 50 employees, is based in Surrey, UK. The company makes the Smart Terminal, which provides TV shows, Internet access and health care information to patients, and can be hooked up to a patient's electronic medical record. The systems also come with optional bar code scanners and smart card readers.
