The Middle East's largest gathering of health care professionals was inaugurated Monday by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai. The Arab Health Exhibition and Congress, which runs until January 28, is the biggest event to date at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

DOTmed.com was among 2,700 exhibitors from 70 countries.

"This first day confirmed the international flavor of companies and hospitals with people from the U.A.E., South Africa, the United Kingdom and all over the world," said DOTmed Project Manager Mike Johns.
Some highlights included GE's free mobile mammography exams, evening outdoor parties hosted by a variety of manufacturers, and an overall good mood among both attendees and exhibitors, Johns reported from the show.

"The local food is really good and the people very friendly," he said.



The event is one of the world's most important health care exhibitions.

With the Middle East health care sector continuing to enjoy robust growth despite the global downturn, more companies than ever are exhibiting at Arab Health this year in their search for new business, according to the event organizers.

Germany has this year mounted its biggest-ever representation at a health event outside of Germany with more than 400 companies participating. For the first time, the second biggest representation comes from China with around 300 exhibiting companies. Big representations also come from the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States, each with around 200 exhibiting companies; and India, Iran, Italy, South Korea and Taiwan with upward of 100 companies each.
