A source of giving

DOTmed News has reported on charitable activities by many companies and organizations this holiday season but Alpha Source, Inc. takes the fruitcake.

The company is a regular contributor of healthcare supplies to several local, regional and global charities including MediSend, International Children's Heart Foundation, Foundation Tarahumara, TriMedx Healthcare Equipment Services Foundation, Project Health for Leon, Healthcare Without Borders, and Operation Christmas Child.

Giving back and collaborating with other businesses to do so is important to Alpha Source President Norine Carlson-Weber. These efforts fit into the company's mission to support initiatives and causes that provide and promote quality healthcare. "By working together we can achieve great things," she said. "By supporting Operation Christmas Child, Alpha Source is able to help deliver some of the basic needs including hygiene supplies to children around the globe."

"Our President is a strong advocate of giving back and ... these types of charitable giving activities go on year round," the company's spokesperson, Kendra Hill, told DOTmed News. "In addition to donating products, Alpha Source also has accounts with multiple non-profits, primarily organizations dedicated to medical-related causes, in which we offer very reasonable pricing."

They definitely walk the walk with a number of efforts including those described below (links are included if you wish to contact the organizations to donate):

-Alpha Source made a donation to the Michael J. Miller Scholarship: Created in 2009, the Michael J. Miller Scholarship Program provides scholarships to students who are pursuing an education in medical technology management. The program is named in honor of Michael J. Miller a leader in the medical technology field who served as AAMI's president for 40 years until his retirement in 2009. (http://www.aami.org/foundation/scholarship/)

-In November, Alpha Source donated over $10,000 worth of equipment to Samaritan Purse, World Medical Mission, and Operation Smile. The company collected school supplies, toys, personal hygiene items, children's clothing and candy for distribution to children all over the world. Alpha Source and Visual Impressions, Inc., another business located in Calumet Industrial Park, supported Operation Christmas Child's mission to deliver shoe boxes full of supplies and gifts to children in over 130 countries including Abkhazia, Belize, Nepal, Niger, Rwanda, and Trinidad. World Medical Mission, established in 1977 to assist general surgeons who wanted to volunteer for short-term mission trips. http://www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/WMM/index/)
