A phoroptor or refractor is a piece of medical equipment used to measure the refractive error of the eye and determine the correct prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses. The phoroptor is a combination of a refractor and a phorometer, which measures the eye's refractive power. It is used to measure the patient's vision, the curvature of the cornea, and the size of the eye.
The phoroptor consists of a light source, a lens, a chin rest, and a dial that allows the user to adjust the lens power.
