Léon Bérard Center has selected EPIbeam, EPID-based pretreatment patient-specific Quality Assurance software from DOSIsoft

February 06, 2019
DOSIsoft SA, leading provider of advanced software solutions for Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine, announces that the Léon Bérard Center (CLB, Lyon, France), has selected EPIbeam - its Patient Specific Quality Assurance (QA) Software based on the Electronic Portal Imaging Device (EPID) and dedicated to pretreatment verification of irradiation beams.

EPIbeam: Automated, fast and independent pretreatment verification based on the EPID
Dedicated to verifying radiation therapy beams prior to patient treatments by comparing the delivered dose, reconstructed from electronic portal images, with the planned dose computed by the Treatment Planning System (TPS), EPIbeam is an automated, fast and independent quality control solution for External Beam Radiation Therapy.

The solution is characterized by the use of Electronic Portal Imaging Device (EPID): which means that the pretreatment patient-specific beam control is performed under the treatment machine without phantom-based measurements. The reference image calculated by EPIbeam from the patient's treatment plan does not need TPS computation of hybrid plans.

EPIbeam is a standalone, independent and full-web software compatible with every linear accelerator equipped with an EPID. It is also fully compatible with all current treatment techniques: 3D-CRT, IMRT, VMAT and standard or FFF (Flattening Filter Free) beam fluence modes.

The Léon Bérard Center: An Elekta Reference Center
Equipped with Elekta Versa® and Synergy® treatment machines, the Léon Bérard Center has decided to perform automatic and systematic pretreatment quality controls with EPIbeam. EPIbeam interoperability with Elekta iViewGT™ 3.4.1 has been achieved and verified since 2018 under the framework of Elekta's Third Party Vendor Interoperability (VIP) Program. This validation optimizes and ensures the EPIbeam integration into the Radiotherapy clinical workflow.

"We are very proud to have been selected by the Léon Bérard Center, an important Elekta reference Center and one of the Unicancer French Comprehensive Cancer Centers (FCCC). The choice of the Léon Bérard Center demonstrates the clinical relevance of our new EPIbeam software solution, both CE marked and FDA cleared, and the value of a guaranteed interoperability with the Elekta EPID. It will help our international deployment in hospital centers equipped with Elekta treatment machines." comments Marc Uszynski, DOSIsoft CEO.

"Our choice of EPIbeam – Portal dosimetry solution developed by DOSIsoft – results from our evaluations and studies for solutions that can make our daily Quality Control tasks more efficient and help to save time in our clinical routine. This purchase follows a close collaboration between the CLB Center and DOSIsoft regarding Quality Assurance for External Radiotherapy. Benefiting from a high resolution, the EPID detector is already integrated in the treatment machine, and thus allows us to implement easily quality controls of treatment plans at any time." says Claude Malet, Head of Physics Unit at the Léon Bérard Center.
